A Letter From Program Director Joe Alessi – Join us at #HouseOfCode This April
As the Director of the Congressional App Challenge, I have the distinct privilege of working with Congress to inspire the most diverse generation of domestic STEM talent in our nation’s history. The work to cultivate and highlight the work of talented young people from across the country who are passionate about technology and innovation is the most rewarding part of my job. At its core, the Congressional App Challenge is a nationwide program that encourages students to use their creativity and coding skills to develop applications that solve real-world problems, and our annual #HouseOfCode celebration is the culmination of these incredible efforts.
I was reminded of the power of this kind of innovation and inspiration when, at 12 years old, I took part in Space Day 2001, an event that brought the excitement of space exploration to students across the country. I was struck by the way that this event sparked my own imagination and encouraged me to dream big about my own future in STEM education.
For these young people, #HouseOfCode represents a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to showcase their talent and to connect with others who share their passion for technology and innovation. It is a chance to meet with leaders in the tech community and to hear from experts in a variety of fields about the latest developments and trends in the world of tech.
But #HouseOfCode is not just important for the students who will be demonstrating their apps. It is also an opportunity for Members of Congress, tech leaders, and STEM supporters to see first-hand the incredible potential of the next generation of tech innovators. By attending this event, you will be able to witness the limitless possibilities that lie ahead for our nation and for the world if we continue to support and invest in the education and development of our young people.
So I urge you to mark your calendars for April 17-18, 2023, and join me at #HouseOfCode to celebrate the incredible achievements of the Congressional App Challenge winners and to be inspired by the possibilities of the future. Together, we can help to create a world where technology and innovation are accessible to all and where every young person has the opportunity to pursue their dreams and make a difference in the world.
