The Congressional App Challenge is excited to announce the inaugural National App Challenge Day on September 19. This special day will celebrate the remarkable achievements of the CAC, highlight the congressional commitment to computer science education, and raise awareness about the importance of K-12 STEM education across the United States.
What is National App Challenge Day?
National App Challenge Day will feature several key events and initiatives aimed at showcasing the impact of the CAC and promoting STEM education. This day will bring together students, educators, policymakers, and technology enthusiasts to celebrate the innovative spirit and accomplishments of young app developers across the nation.
CAC Alumni Presenting at the Annual Congressional Hack-a-Thon
As part of National App Challenge Day, Speaker Mike Johnson and Leader Hakeem Jeffries have invited CAC alumni to participate in the annual Congressional Hackathon 6.0. This event will be held on September 19 at the U.S. Capitol and will feature CAC alumni pitching innovative projects and ideas to improve Congress. The Hackathon brings together a bipartisan group of Members of Congress, congressional staff, and technology experts to explore how digital platforms can enhance the legislative process. Selected alumni will present their ideas on stage, offering unique perspectives on how to leverage technology to benefit the congressional community.
CAC Social Media Campaign
To further celebrate National App Challenge Day, the CAC will activate its stakeholders from around the country to launch a grassroots social media campaign, aimed to highlight the achievements of past participants, showcase the impact of the App Challenge, and engage a broader audience in the conversation about STEM education. Through engaging content and interactive features, the campaign will inspire students, educators, and policymakers to support and participate in the Congressional App Challenge.
Interactive Content with Members of Congress
In addition to the Hackathon and social media campaign, the CAC is developing interactive content in collaboration with sitting Members of Congress. This initiative will provide students with the opportunity to engage directly with their representatives, gaining insights into the legislative process and the role of technology in government.

About the Congressional App Challenge
The Congressional App Challenge, created in 2013 by leaders in the U.S. House of Representatives and the Internet Education Foundation, is a nationwide coding competition designed to inspire middle and high school students to pursue careers in technology. Through House Resolution 77, Members of Congress challenge students in their districts to create and submit original apps. Each year, representatives announce a single winning application from their districts, with winning teams receiving public recognition and the opportunity to have their apps displayed in the U.S. Capitol Building for one year.
The CAC is a nonpartisan initiative aimed at encouraging students from all backgrounds to explore careers in computer science. It provides an excellent platform for Members of Congress to engage positively with their constituents by showcasing the innovative work of local students and emphasizing the importance of technological literacy and innovation.
