Welcome back to the alumni-led Congressional App Challenge Debugged Podcast!  If you’re new to Debugged, here’s a bit about the podcast. 

Launched last year by the Congressional App Challenge Alumni Advisory Board, the Debugged Podcast connects the country’s youth with tech by *debugging* the intricate world of Computer Science. By highlighting trends, simplifying complex concepts, and speaking with high profile guests, Debugged allows its listeners to delve into tech in an analytical yet relatable way. Debugged is a unique podcast experience that seeks to redefine STEM education, highlight diverse voices, and further the narrative around a myriad of Computer Science topics. Some past guests include Ruthe Farmer, Yannic Kilcher, and Trisha Prabhu.  

In this episode of the Debugged Podcast, Medha Gupta sits down with Sam Wiener, the Head of Product Engineering at Saturn where she is a critical leader for driving strategy and execution for their mobile product. Wiener shares her incredible journey from starting out in computer science to managing the engineering team behind Instagram’s Reels product to working on developing a useful scheduling social calendar called Saturn, with a purpose to connect students with the people and information that matters the most. The duo also discuss Techsetters, a podcast Wiener co-hosts that empowers young women to pursue their dreams in technology by uncovering the secrets of Techsetters everywhere. Wiener talks about the importance of getting out of your comfort zone, learning from great mentors, and staying curious!  Tune into Wiener’s amazing journey as a leader and techsetter!

Sam Wiener is the Head of Product Engineering at Saturn where she is a critical leader for driving strategy and execution for their mobile product. Prior, she was at Instagram for five years where she managed the engineering team behind Instagram’s Reels product and amassed a critical understanding of the ever-changing Gen Z consumer behavior. While there, Sam also led the Women@ resource group, working closely with leadership to make the company more equitable and inclusive. Outside of work, Sam co-hosts Techsetters, a podcast executive produced by Karlie Kloss and leads a dinner series with the city’s top female tech talent.
