Meet the Congressional App Challenge’s Winter 2023 Interns

This Winter, we are pleased to welcome two new interns to the Congressional App Challenge team: Jordan Herz as our Congressional Affairs Intern and Allie Suarez as Congressional Communications Intern.

Allie is a student at UC Davis and Jordan is a student at UC Santa Cruz who both discovered the Congressional App Challenge through the UCDC program. This program organizes a cohort of students to Washington D.C. to work in public service-oriented internships while living in the nation’s capital.

Winter Interns (3)

Jordan is a senior at UC Santa Cruz majoring in Legal Studies and Economics. He is originally from Los Angeles, California, where he began his interest in congressional affairs as a student who loved learning about government. At UCSC, he works as a Lead Undergraduate Peer Advisor for the Economics Department. He has also been involved with the Santa Cruz Tenant Sanctuary, providing free legal help to Santa Cruz locals who are experiencing tenancy conflicts. Next year, Jordan plans to study for the LSAT to study law in southern California. In the future, Jordan hopes to work as an attorney. In his free time, Jordan enjoys exploring cities, gaming, and spending time with friends.

Allie is a senior at UC Davis studying Art History and Museum Studies. Raised in a small town in the Central Valley, Chowchilla California, she has led student organizations since high school where she found her passion for leadership. This led to the interest in the UCDC program. At UC Davis Allie works at the on-campus museum where she found an interest in education policy. She found the Congressional App Challenge when looking for an internship that took a special interest in educational programs centered towards our youth. Next year, Allie plans to spend time abroad, in Spain, teaching English to elementary school children. Outside of work, Allie enjoys hiking, traveling, baking, reading, and spending time with her dog.

The 2023 Congressional App Challenge will launch on June 15th, 2023. Students can enter their original apps through November 1st, 2023. The link to register for this year’s App Challenge can be found here.
